To start, consider these questions:
If it's more convenient for you, you can write or sketch your thoughts and bring your notes to the session, or simply reflect on them before hand.
How do you imagine our first meeting?
What is important to you in our communication?
If you have preferences for the consultation, such as:
What challenges are you currently facing?
I will be happy to take them into account.
What changes would you like to make?
What outcomes would you like to achieve?
Using informal or formal language.
Working with imagery, support between sessions.
Whether or not you’d like homework assignments, etc.
Anything else…
What if I can’t articulate anything and find it difficult to focus on something specific right now, but I just know I want to make a change?
That’s perfectly fine. We can work through it together (there are different ways to do this). Sometimes, during the first sessions, it’s most important to simply feel that you can talk about anything, express your emotions, and receive support.
Here, I will outline some common concerns to help you get a sense of direction before our first meeting
Understanding and accepting oneself
I want to better understand my emotions and behavior.
I want to accept them.
I want to know my values and use them as a foundation in life.
I want to recognize my strengths and resources to achieve my goals.
Everything has changed / I need a change
I feel like I’m stuck in the same routine, repeating mistakes, and want to break free from it.
I’ve moved (to a new house, street, city, or country). How do I integrate? Who am I here?
I’ve ended a close relationship. How do I cope with this?
I’m managing, but I just want support on my journey through change.
